Announcement: 15 September 2008
The Wake County Wildlife Club is making a move to diversify the Dixie Deer Classic.
Beginning with the 2009 show scheduled for March 6, 7, and 8, the Dixie Deer Classic is
joining with the NC Bowhunters Association in opening a fourth building for the show,
which will have "Bowhunting" as its primary theme. The Dixie Deer Classic Indoor
3-D Archery Tournament will be relocated to this venue in the Kerr Scott Building, as well
as the Kids Archery Shoot. The NCBA will host its annual convention banquet in the
building at 7PM. The banquet is open to the public, but tickets must be purchased, and can
be at the show.In yet another move of diversification, the Dixie Deer Classic is
joining with the NC Wild Turkey Federation in several programs that will be conducted at
the show, including "turkey calling contests". On Friday a "Manufacturers
Contest" is being scheduled, as well as a Youth competition. An Amateur Calling
Contest open to the public will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday. NCNWTF is also
planning to host a "Youth Outdoor Art Contest" that will be concluded at the
show.
Also joining the show will the NC Quality Deer Management Association presenting a
series of informative seminars of interest to experienced as well as beginning hunters.
More details on these and other programs being scheduled will be forthcoming as time draws
nearer.
The Wake County Wildlife Club also wants to reemphasize the FRIDAY YOUTH DAY at the Dixie
Deer Classic. The show began opening at 9 AM on Friday to accommodate the youth of our
state with a greater opportunity to visit the show. Youth twelve and under are admitted
FREE, and thirteen to eighteen year olds are only $5.00 on Friday. Groups of 20 or more
should contact the show for special packages.
The Dixie Deer Classic has been a successful show for the past twenty-eight years, and
the Wake County Wildlife Club hopes these changes will help insure its continued success
for years to come.
